MARGHERITA FERRI
biography - CV

Filmmaker, screenwriter and director, Margherita Ferri studied at UCLA and CSC, National School of Cinema in Rome. Her films, both documentary and narrative, focus on coming of age / rite of passage stories about diverse characters in search of their identity and their place in the world. Most of the time waring a smile, she stubbornly strives to make queer films in Italy. Her debut film, Zen - In the ice rift, was developed within the prestigious program Biennale College Cinema where it won the final production grant of the 2018 edition. The movie premiered at the 75th Mostra del Cinema di Venezia and later screened in many festivals around the world winning a Honorable Mention at Frameline 43.

As a screenwriter she wrote the sophisticated horror The Nest, presented at Locarno Film Festival in 2019. That same year, she was nominated as best emerging director at Nastri d’Argento (the Italian Cinema Press and Critics Award) and in 2022 she won a special mention in the short films competition.

She also works as a director for Netflix and Amazon Italy. She directed episodes of the Original Netflix Series ZERO (2021), the first series about black Italians, and of the Amazon Prime Video series Bang Bang Baby (2022), a female driven crime-pop drama set in the 80s that was selected for Cannes Series competition 2022.

She is currently developing her own new feature film projects and constantly checking the waves to surf.
